Priority issues & challenges

1. Water & irrigation

Kech Valley agriculture (dates, wheat) depends heavily on the Mirani Dam and karez systems, both under strain from reduced rainfall.

2. Health

Turbat's hospitals remain the referral point for the whole division, straining capacity built for a much smaller catchment.

3. Education access

Female literacy (43.46%) lags male literacy (55.23%) by more than 11 points.

4. Unemployment

Limited industrial base beyond agro-processing and date packing leaves youth reliant on migration for work.

5. Security

The district has repeatedly been the site of militancy-linked incidents affecting the Turbat–Quetta and coastal highways.
